Is International Exposure Really Important for a Career in Finance? (53 อ่าน)

Hi everyone,
I’ve been thinking a lot about how crucial international exposure is when it comes to building a strong career in finance. Many people say that studying abroad offers better opportunities, but I’m trying to understand how big of a difference it actually makes in real life. Does studying in another country significantly improve your understanding of global markets, or is it more about the networking and cultural experience?

When I look around, it seems like the finance industry is becoming increasingly global. Decisions made in one part of the world often impact economies elsewhere. Because of this interconnectedness, I feel like it’s important to study in an environment where you can interact with people from different backgrounds and learn how financial systems operate in different regions.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that some countries focus heavily on theory, while others emphasize practical learning like internships, case studies, and industry projects. Depending on your goals—whether it’s investment banking, financial analysis, fintech, or risk management—the type of training you get can make a huge difference. I’d love to know what others here think.
Does studying abroad give you an advantage, or does it depend entirely on the institution?

France keeps coming up during my research because of its strong business schools and close ties with global companies. I’ve heard that many institutions collaborate directly with the finance industry, which helps students gain practical exposure alongside classroom learning. But before I finalize anything, I want to understand how much international exposure actually matters from the perspective of people who have already been through this journey.

If anyone here has studied finance abroad—or even considered it—I’d appreciate hearing your experiences.
Did studying in another country help you grow professionally or give you better opportunities afterward?
Or do you think staying in your home country can be just as effective if the institution is strong?

Right now, I’m exploring several options and trying to figure out what will truly shape my long-term career. Since I’m specifically looking into specialized finance masters programs, understanding the value of international exposure would really help in making the right decision.
